Gatekeepers Bureau 9 Roster

Characters from a Gatekeepers Role-Playing Game that was developed and run by an acquaintance. The game was set in the 80s and he wanted the RPG to reflect more of the Gatekeepers console game (which had dating-sim elements) rather than the anime. The first "season" was very close to what he wanted and was rather light-hearted, by the time he ran the second "season", it was now more action oriented and a darker story - somewhat like Gatekeepers 21.

The roster only shows all of the 1st season characters (top 3 rows) and some of the 2nd season characters (bottom row). I think I left out around 5 other characters since I stopped drawing them when the latest artwork I had done at the time was disparaged by said acquaintance.

To capture the flavor of the art style, I had spent long nights studying various promotional artwork of Gatekeepers - both the anime and the game.

In the image, all Japanese characters use the format of Family name then Given name. In the list below of who's who, I stuck to a single format of Given name then Family name...

TOP ROW
Tameyori Hayabusa - Player Character. One of only 2 gymnasts in the school.
Hideki Yamamoto - Player Character. MVP of the school's baseball team.
Tomoko Daidouji - Player Character based on Tomoyo Daidouji of Card Captor Sakura. Joins the games after Cherry was introduced. Not part of the same school.
Kui Hagane - Player Character (mine!). A quiet genius student that has skipped several grades upward.
Ryuuji Kusanagi - Player Character. A goofy, semi-delinquent in school.

SECOND ROW
Miyuki Okamoto - NPC based on Naru Narusigawa of Love Hina. Partnered to Tameyori.
Chie Kawai - original NPC design. One of 2 characters that are vying for Hideki's affection. Attends the same school, but wears the uniform of her previous school.
Saemi Ikeda - sister of Shun Ukiya from the original anime series. Takes the role of team Hisho.
Cherry Otohime - NPC based on Sakura Kinimoto from Card Captor Sakura. Partnered to Kui. Attends a different school.
Sara Chitravanti - original NPC design. One of 2 characters that Ryuuji is attracted to. A teacher in the school.

THIRD ROW
Keiko Ochiai - an NPC who is the same as the one in the anime. She is now the team's Shirei.
Hikaru Saizuki - NPC based on Hikaru Shidou of Magic Knight Rayearth. Chie's rival for Hideki's affection. Attends the same school and is from a family of Kendo practitioners.
Meimi Suzuhara - an original NPC character. The only one that isn't romantically linked with any of the PCs. Becomes a singing Idol in season 2.
Asami Kumobara - an original NPC character who is the daughter of the anime's Kanetake Meguro (also called Megane). The 2nd character that Ryuuji is attracted to.

BOTTOM ROW
Riei Mikage - Season 2 NPC based on Hayate from Prétear. An AEGIS deep cover agent who eventually becomes Yuri's boyfriend.
Yuri Lilliana Matsushima - Season 2 Player Character. Of Russian / Japanese descent. Goes to a different school.
Sorato Mikage - Season 2 Player Character. Tomboyish younger sister of Riei. Attends a different school.
Komori Shinogami - Season 2 Player Character. Good friend and schoolmate of Sorato. Starts out blind in the game but her powers eventually fixes her eyesight.
Ruriko Ukiya - an NPC who is the same as the one in the anime. She is looking for her husband, Shun, and has handed command of the bureau to Keiko. Only shows up at Season 2.


The character I played is Kui. I really hated Megumi Kurogane in the anime, but was intrigued by her powers, so I made Kui her son - inheriting the same power, but more outgoing and confident of himself.
